Ashley Klaus has always been curious, with an affinity for working on logic puzzles and approaching life in a very scientific way. She comes by it naturally since her father is a scientist. While earning her Bachelor’s degree in Genetics from the University of California Davis, Ashley planned to become a doctor but realized she didn’t have a passion for it. She then attended law school to become a business attorney, and in her first year there she took one tax class and absolutely loved it. “It’s like a light went on in my head, and I took all the tax classes I could until I graduated from law school. I found my passion!”
During her 15+ year career, Ashley has become a national expert on State and Local Tax. She is dedicated to learning what causes her clients pain from a tax perspective, what kind of practical solutions they’re looking for, and then exploring how to apply specific state tax developments in an innovative way. “I think in tax, professionals can get a black & white mindset that this rule says that, but when you look at a specific rule, it’s not always as black & white as you may think. That’s where my real value is – to be able to work on the logic puzzle to find a workable solution for clients.”
Ashley enjoys spending time with her husband and kids doing school and outdoor activities, and she loves to run 5k and 10k races every couple of months. She’s especially thrilled her oldest daughter has caught the running bug and is a cross-country runner.
