Similar to shareholder Doug Lovett, Kyle shares something of the family accounting gene, being a third-generation CPA, following in the footsteps of his great uncle and his father. “I was around it my whole life, and saw early on that I was good at it.” Having worked with some of the industry’s larger firms, including a three-year stint in the London office of Deloitte & Touche, Kyle gets a particular charge from working more directly with business owners and C-level leaders.
“When you’re dealing mainly with owners of businesses, as is the case at Geffen Mesher, you get to see just how much our work matters to them, especially since it impacts them on very personal levels.” While Kyle’s Big 4 background informs the technical knowledge and expertise he brings to his current projects and clients, he keeps in mind the person-to-person nature of the work as well. “Personality is a big component that a lot of recent grads and newer CPAs often take for granted. You can have the best grades in your class, but if you can’t relate to people, you’re going to have a hard time in the industry.” One of Kyle’s favorite personalities to be around is his young son’s. “The work we do is hard, and nothing’s better than coming home and playing on the floor with him, or the way he looks at me when I walk in.”
